Welcome to the City of Detroit's
Department of Health and Wellness Promotion

Our Mission is to improve the health and quality of life through the application of best practices in the delivery of public health services.

The Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion is the tenth largest public health department in the nation. The DHWP provides a comprehensive array of services including the new role of Emergency Preparedness.

The DHWP is client and community centered and with more than 200,000 individuals serviced a year, we are committed to excellence and steadily improving in order to meet the health challenges of the Detroit Community.

As we move into a new fiscal year, we are pleased to share our Strategic Plan. Our plan establishes our priorities and the goals we are to determine to accomplish.

The Department of Health and Wellness Promotion (DHWP) is a leader and innovator in the delivery of public health services. DHWP provides an accessible gateway to systems, research and resources that improve public health practice, finance and policy.

DHWP is a strategic partner in assuring access to quality health care services. Our highly skilled, knowledgeable and competent workforce applies best practices in the delivery of mandated and necessary public health services.

DHWP works successfully to design, coordinate and deliver program and initiatives that positively impact the health and well being of our citizens.
